Press Release - Communiqué de Presse
Delachute finally unveils his first album Canal.
The album was made in collaboration with producers/mixers Mark Lawson (known for his work with Arcade Fire, Beirut and Timber Timbre) Rolie “Olivier Béliveau” Olie, film composer Maxime Fortin and mastering engineer Jean-Philippe Villemure.
Canal represents an attempt to escape heartache, offering a lens to process different complex emotions. Describing the album as a means of navigating sadness, Delachute explains: “These songs are the only space where I allowed myself to be truly sad, extracting something pure and beautiful from emotions that seems strictly negative on the surface. It’s easier to accept sadness when you know you can create something beautiful with it.” The album invites listeners to reflect on the healing power of music and the hope that can emerge from sorrow.
With themes of heartbreak, romance, and loneliness, the album captures a melancholic yet romantic essence. As Delachute reflects, “Listening back, it almost feels like someone else is singing, showing that the songs are really just a reflection of a state of mind at a very specific time.”
Recorded primarily in the St-Henri neighborhood in Montreal, just steps away from the Lachine Canal, the setting has been significant in Delachute’s personal life. “Major turning points of my life happened by the canal. Everyday, I would walk there and get immersed in the constant movement of water. A reminder that everything passes, even the darkest thoughts”. The album’s visuals, captured by Orhan Aydin, further emphasize this connection with the canal.
Canal is now available for streaming and download, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in Delachute's introspective soundscape.
Delachute also announced his first Canadian and European tour (see Shows section).n tour.

About my first EP (Delachute)
“Murders are rarely random. Love is almost always part of the equation.”
For a couple of years, my job involved driving to prison and spending countless hours with offenders and their victim (or family members when the victim was dead). I was confronted to unreal and tragic stories. I realized that murders are rarely random. “Love” is almost always part of the equation.
Even though it was part of my routine, I never really got used to hearing people talk about why they killed someone. It would keep me up at night.
My way to cope with all this was to write and record music in my home studio in Montréal, Qc. I had the chance to mix the songs with Grammy award winning engineer Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Beirut, Timber Timbre, Owen Pallett).
This music is inspired by the most vicious side of human nature, but it is not sad music, as our capacity for resilience and forgiveness also serves as inspiration. The result is melancholic and catchy.
This experience had a huge impact on me and was the main inspiration behind my first EP.
